Abstract

Assoc. Prof. Ali Algül, in his study titled Kırmızı Kalem (A Review on Literary Subjects in Halit Ziya's Forty Years), started with the subjects in Halit Ziya's Forty Years and then shed light on the dark points of the pre-Servet-i Fünûn and Servet-i Fünûn periods. According to the author, only one master's thesis has been written on Kırk Yıl and no other scientific study has been conducted on this work. For this reason, the writing of this work is important in terms of revealing some of the issues that need to be illuminated and reflecting the mentality of the period based on Halit Ziya's memoir Forty Years. This work, which is the product of a long study, has been written to fill an important gap in Turkish literature in general and Servet-i Fünûn in particular. Dr Algül's choice of the title of his work was influenced by the fact that many works of high literary value were stuck in the red pen and this constituted a major obstacle to productivity. In the preface of the book, the author states that the purpose of writing this book is to reveal the literary issues in Forty Years, which he defines as the black box of Servet-i Fünûn Literature. Again in the preface, the author states that The Red Pen (An Investigation on Literary Subjects in Halit Ziya's Forty Years) consists of three parts: "Introduction", "Conclusion", "Bibliography", "Appendices", and "Index" and gives information about these parts.
